Anti-Tarnishing Coated Chain:
High Temperature Anti-Tarnishing Coating (ATC)
ATC is a special type of electroplating done on metal objects that helps prevent the surface from tarnishing or oxidizing. This process creates a thin layer of coating on metal objects, such as chains, findings etc. The electroplating slows the rate of oxidation rate and extends the lifespan of the item when used as an accessory. Generally, gold/silver/copper plating preserves the color of the metal from only a few hours to several days. ATC can maintain the accessory's color for a much longer period as long as the handler is careful as to not expose the product to moisture or sweat.
Since the electroplating process is performed in high temperature conditions, the resulting coating color may be slightly different from other products of the same color. In particular, the gold color may be darker than expected.
Products with ATC are by no means waterproof. As with all electroplated products, one should avoid immersing these metals in water and should take them off before activities such as showering, swimming, or exercising. Sweat and oil (e.g. from the fingers) should also be avoided.
ATC will only temporarily slow the oxidation process. As a result, the color will eventually change over time.
